Every M-Pesa payment already arrives as a text, so the record of your spending exists. Letting a budgeting app read it normally means uploading your whole financial history to a company you know nothing about.
What we did
Taught the app to read eleven kinds of M-Pesa message, covering Paybill, Buy Goods, Fuliza, M-Shwari and agent cash, so spending is logged without anyone typing it in.
Tested that reading 113 different ways, because Safaricom words the same payment differently and one missed wording quietly loses a real transaction.
Kept everything on the phone. No account, no login, and no copy of your messages sitting on a server.
Made the money advice optional, and stripped names and notes out before anything is sent off for it.
